Truly Helpful welcomes you to join them on Maui this summer for a 300-hour Yoga Alliance recognized yoga teacher training. Your hosts and yoga instructors, Allowah and Mark, have put together a team that brings over seven combined years of Maui living experience and they are ready to share their deep knowledge and love for the Aina (land) with you! If you are ready to take your yoga practice and, more importantly, your life to that next level, then this is the yoga teacher training for you! Whether you want to start teaching classes in a studio as soon as you graduate, or you want to deepen your knowledge and enhance your personal asana practice, you have come to the right place.
This retreat is being held at the Spirit of Aloha Temple on Maui. Listen to the singing birds, rejuvenate at the ocean front gardens, enjoy waterfalls, meditation, get grounding, walk around the Grandmother Tree to hear from the Aina, and truly breath in the Spirit of Aloha.
Lodging will be in camping tents, which might sound intense, but it’s actually very doable. And it’s part of the yogic ethos of non-attachment, simplification, and living close to nature. There will be options to have a private tent or a shared tent. There are two indoor bathrooms and two outdoor showers with hot water and gorgeous views
Students who complete their subsequent trainings are eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as Registered Yoga Teachers (RYT®).
The primary topics you will cover are yoga philosophy and history, Sanskrit, teaching methodology, techniques, anatomy and physiology, yoga ethics and way of life, the business of yoga, and practicum (teaching).
Please note that if you already have your 200-hour training, either from Yoga Quest University or another Yoga Alliance-registered school, you are eligible to attend the 300-hour training.
The course will offer a deeper immersion in all of the topics covered in your 200-hour training, giving you a much better grounding in these areas. You will also be certified at the 500-hour level and eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as an RYT-500.
The course manual is included, required and recommended books must be purchased separately in advance, as will other yoga accessories such as mat, yoga clothes, and etc.
A lot of emphases will be placed on following your heart and finding your own unique voice and way of expression, even if you choose not to teach yoga. The skills, practices, and lessons learned from this training will well-serve you the rest of your life.
Truly Helpful also wants to emphasize that they do not promote any worldview or religious dogma (including dietary), but rather bring forward different viewpoints so that they might “consider the possibilities.”
They view yoga not as a religion but as a tool that can actually help you to practice your own faith and live your life more fruitfully. There are many paths of yoga (“paths are many, the truth is one”), and there are many styles; they want to help you find the ones that fit you best.
That said, the style that we mainly teach is a form of Hatha Vinyasa yoga (aka “Vinyasa flow”) that lends itself well to the creativity and intuition of the teacher and can be modified to fit different age groups, fitness levels, etc.
“An RYS 300-hour advanced training is designed to build upon and deepen the trainee’s understanding of the fundamental concepts of the practice and teaching of yoga that are generally taught at the RYS 200-hour level. An RYS 300-hour advanced training prepares its trainees to teach principles and techniques of yoga that are more advanced, more detailed, and/or subtler, and the training enables them to teach with greater skill than could reasonably be expected of an RYT 200.”
We plan to visit the beaches often, go snorkeling, partake in ecstatic dance, see the epic sunrise of Haleakala, take the road to Hana and more!
Allowah Lani has been a student of yoga for the past 20 years and a student of philosophy and world spirituality since his early teens. He is registered as an E-RYT 500 through Yoga Alliance and has a 300-hour certification through Dr. David Frawley’s American Institute of Vedic Studies. Allowah received his 500-hour training through Sri Dharma Mittra at the Dharma Yoga Center in NYC. Allowah has over 10,000 yoga teaching hours, has led over 30 yoga teacher training, and has certified nearly 60 Yoga Alliance certified yoga teachers. He recently opened up his first studio in Naples, Florida.
Mark has a passion for yoga that was planted in 2008, sprouted while living in the San Francisco Bay area in 2014, and then blossomed in 2016 when he attended a life-changing 200-hour yoga teacher training in Kauai, Hawaii; hosted by Allowah Lani. Mark and Allowah have been working together ever since to offer transformative YTT and retreats all around the world. Mark brings that Maui spirit of Aloha to his students through a peaceful and calming presence. Mark also believes in the power of community, loves traveling the world, and hopes to inspire others to organically grow their own food.
