Surrender - When and Why?

Surrender – When and Why?

Faith can move mountains, and surrender is the way to completely experience and express that faith. Who we worship and how are not that important, as long as the worshipped represent and invoke within us divine energy and universal love, as do Jesus, Moses, Saibaba, the many saints, Buddha, Mahavira, Guru Nanak, Narayan, Shiva, Devimata, Rama or our natkhat Krishna. Thus it is what we invoke within us through the worship, rather than who we worship and what power they embody. No matter who we worship, the thought of that entity would open up our spiritual gateway to perceiving higher levels of consciousness, so that the mind perceives and receives the positive subtler energies flowing at those frequencies.

It is what WE associate with the name and the form, that triggers this gateway and that could range way beyond what the deity is believed to represent, like Mother Goddess representing shakti and worldly accomplishment, Hanumanji representing health, power and removal of negative energy, MahaLakshmi representing wealth and prosperity, Saraswati mata representing knowledge and education.

But the reality is that one could realize everything by way of surrendering to any one of them, not only the powers they are believed to represent. Thus one could surrender to MahaLakshmi, mata with everything and seek every blessing from Her. Thus he would be blessed with knowledge, education, protection, health and even realize Brahm without having to worship Saraswati mata for knowledge, or Hanumanji for hralth and protection. Similarly, one could meditate upon Hanumanji and reach the same realization and liberation as one expects to do by worshipping Narayan or Krishna. Our worship of Gods and Goddesses intensify and raise our consciousness to higher levels thus triggering our spiritual energy portals open. Then the consciousness automatically rises level after level. There is no boundary or dead end in any worship in any religion, or in any of the spiritual practices. It is the individual soul’s evolution process at play and that will take its own course.

HOW does this happen? In worship, as faith grows stronger, self-surrender happens automatically, and once SURRENDER has happened, the energy gateways at all the subtle energy centers…chakras, are thrown wide open, all ifs and buts are washed away and barriers broken off to unconditionally let in unlimited divine energies. Once divine energy pervades one’s consciousness, it cleanses all dirt and blockages, and gradually expands one’s consciousness and awareness to merge into universal oneness!… Like when water gushes in through a stream, it washes away all barriers and widens the stream itself, inundating the banks, bringing fertility and fecundity everywhere.

Once there was a guru (master) and a disciple. The disciple had blind faith on the master and had totally surrendered himself to his guru seeking every answer and guidance in him. Once this disciple had a bet with someone was aware of the reality about this guru…”My guru is an enlightened soul, realized, and can do anything, even defy the laws of nature, for he is one with Brahm!”…the disciple claimed with utmost faith. He went into a bet with the other man that he could prove it…” I will show you that not only can he himself walk on water, but can also make me walk on it since I believe in Him, unlike you!”

Then we went to his guru and told him about this man and the bet and that they would both walk on water the next day to prove how realized he is…”I know it is mere child’s play for you, I implore you to do this out of your love for me, guruji, it is the best way to clear this false allegation on you!” The next day walked on water, the disciple with closed eyes, a mild smile of faith and a serene countenance, took the name of his guru and walked right across the water surface. On reaching the other side, not finding his guru beside him, he turned back and found his guruji swimming away in shame.

In this regard, I remember another one, though here the guru is Maryada Purushottam Himself…Rama was a reincarnation of Vishnu, and Hanumanji was the embodiment of devotion. His life was the very enactment of the journey of a soul, besides the point; but there is a saying…Rama himself had to build a setu to reach Lanka, and Hanumanji simply leaped across saying “Jai Siaram!”

…Such is the power of faith and complete surrender!

If you are to worship, then worship with faith and simply surrender all worries, hurdles and problems to the guru. Surrendering will open all knots within you, known and unknown. Divine connection will be established and messages will get conveyed to you from everywhere prompting you along your life path. All the help you seek will be delivered to you at once! The starting point is to surrender. Most of us think surrendering is a very advanced stage of devotion or ritualistic worship. But in actuality, if you want to worship the right way, then start with ‘surrender’. Although usually surrender happens out of blind faith, but, even belief and faith can follow the act of mental surrender. Simply surrender everything within and without, and let the grace flow in!
